on the subject of nsfw

engagement with nsfw,    Though this character may have nsfw content in their background and in some cases, may be shown engaging in suggestive activities in writing or gposes, this does not give you a pass to try and force ERP. I will not be engaging in any explicit ERP in any realm; however should it be deemed appropriate, suggestive writing with a fade to black can be discussed. This is heavily dependent on its overall story and character value, not just for the fun of it.

⚔︎ rule 003.

Lore Adherence

Abiding by the set lore,     XIV’s lore is some of my favourite parts of the game, that said, I am in full support of lore bending, not breaking. Seda is a lore bending character, and some of their history is also lore bending. I do not expect you to follow the lore of the universe to the letter, nor will i enforce it in writing. Is your character a vampire or a fey? If you can give good explanation for how you make it work within the confines of the worlds lore, I am more than happy to write with your character. But if your character is the way it is with no real explanation, I may have to pass; sorry.

⚔︎ rule 004.

communication

an open door,     I value communication with my writing partners. If we are writing a discord rp and you think you won’t be able to post for a week, a few weeks, or a month, just shoot me a text and let me know. As far as planning and plotting goes, I am alright with planning out our interactions, I am also fine with just discussing generals and seeing where things go naturally. I don’t expect us to talk all the time about every little thing, its nice to have plot events occur with very little warning, the surprise is the fun part. As for in-game rp, I would prefer if we could set up dates and times to meet, instead of spontaneous meet-ups.

⚔︎ rule 005.

writing preferences

engagement & writing,     Currently I prefer discord rp over in-game rp, but I would be willing to engage in in-game rp if its convienent. Regardless of where we write, I am an m-para writer and prefer to write multiple paragraphs per post, which is why discord is preferred. If in-game, I like to use /em and write lengthier, 3rd person texts, sometimes spanning multiple character limits. As such, rping with me in-game will be slower, as I don’t just use “dialogue peppered with emotes”.

⚔︎ rule 006.

interacting with the author

A quick note,     I am rather forgetful when it comes to information, and it is likely I will forget character points, events or small things that have occured. While I try and write down everything so I don’t, there will be moments I might forget important details, feel free to remind me of these things. Secondly this character, and myself, are part of the LGBTQ+ community and so those themes will be present. If these sorts of things will not sit well with you, please do not interact.

PERSONALITY    Steadfast, and honest, Seda lives by their own moral code, and strives to do right by those they hold close. Though the words that leave their lips are honest to a fault, they have trouble expressing their emotions outwardly, and when they do, they often shy away from letting those around them see. If they do show it, it is often in small nuanced expressions. This has led to them having a reputation of being cold and distant on occasion. Often at conflict with themselves, despite not showing it, they occasionally let their anger or loneliness get the best of them; leading to situations they often regret later. Though they do their best to be steady, and thick-skinned, they are rather sensitive to others; often taking on too much in the name of helping. Despite their cool exterior and habit of maintaining distance from others, they do desire connection and companionship; though they would never admit it.

⚔︎ history

Born of the Skatay Range in Dalmasca, Seda spent much of her youth away from her homelands. The bastard daughter of a mercenary-turned-knight, the young viera and her surroundings were often contingent on her mother's ever-changing roster of employers. One season spent in Dalmasca, another in Othard, Ilsabard, Eorzea. The young viera knew only life on the road; her estrangement from her only parent grew with every change of 'home'. The course of her life would shift when her mother decided that having such a burden constantly on her heels was something she would be better off without. Abandoned, Seda had to carve out her own means of living, and did so in quiet solitude. Until one day she happened upon a rusted and worn blade; it sparked a fire in her that set her down her lifes path.Hardwork and years spent trying to prove herself eventually paid off, and one day she became a knight, albiet of a lesser order. Her work would eventually drop her in Ishgard, only granted passage through the Steps of Faith by virtue of her work. It was there she was delivering a dignitary hailing from Thavnair and acting in the capacity of a bodyguard to the womans caravan. Be it fate, misfortune or the fickle nature of Gods, tragedy would befall her employers convoy; and Seda would be helpless to protect them. For her sins of failure she would be stripped of her knighthood and reputation and thrown to the brume to fend for herself. Her name would carry with it a punishment of rejection and condemnation. The Seasons changed though the cold of Ishgard never faded, instead it worked its way into her very soul. Honest work was hard to come by and the viera was only able to make a meager living; her name always preceded her, and with it the whispers of ineptitude. In an effort to distance herself from her past, she would adopt the moniker of 'Loxley' and with it try to rebuild herself. For a time she fell to her vices, only really pulled out of them by the support of a pale Au ra named Sidurgu and his young charge. Together they helped the viera overcome the whispers of an entity named Esteem, which fed off her regrets of the past. Her life would change once more when approached by a temple knight who came with an offer; work for the House of Lords, join their coalition as a hunter. Charged with felling the fiends, voidsent, and monsters the city demanded eradicated, Seda found what she believed to be a path to redemption.

LIKES
Routine, herbal tea & hymns. Seda finds comfort in the repetition of a routine, where nothing is a surprise to her. She loves the smell and taste of herbal tea, the warmth of it in her hand; especially after a hard day in the cold. She loves to listen to the chorus of hymns and psalms being sung from the cathedral; they can often be heard as whispers on the air near Saint Reymanauds.
DISLIKES
Hypocrisy, Esteem, the scent of linseed oil. Seda is a person who values truth and honesty above all, and being false or lying is a quick way to lose your standing with her. In moments of weakness, she can hear Esteem's voice worm its way into her head; she despises the foul words it mutters. The scent of linseed oil, often used on armor, clings to her like a bad memory; her mother often smelled of it.

+ ADDITIONAL DETAILS    a heart closed off. a past filled with its own lessons. Seda learned well from her past mistakes, both in love and combat. Her years spent working as a knight have given her an excellent battle sense; and her values developed from living a life sworn to protect have made her something of a bleeding heart. But the pain of being betrayed has caused her to try and wall off those parts of herself. at the end of the day, she is scared. Scared of being hurt, and scared of allowing herself to love again. So she tries her best to distract herself with anything she can find. Even if it leads her to making poor decisions to do so.

APPEARANCE    A viera of tall stature; standing on par with some of the tallest male Au Ra. With a bulkier musculature, Seda boasts strong upper body strength and powerful legs; a result of her chosen weapon. Due to an incident with dragonfire, her torso is covered in burn scars. From her life as a sellsword, her body shows a myriad of scars, each with a tale to tell. Her eyes, reminiscent of the ice covering Coerthas and her homeland, are piercing in that they feel like you could fall into them should you stare too long; there is a depth to them that some may find unsettling. She carries herself with an air of subtle confidence, yet adjusts her posture at times; almost as if she isn’t sure if standing tall is something she has the right to do. She values function over form, and often wears simple or functional clothing, paying little mind to the aesthetics of her look. ⚔︎ Headcanons

aether sickness
A life spent fighting is not without its consequences. Unreliable intel, a sketchy job detail, and general inexperience led Seda into a rather precarious situation, leading to her and her company being trapped within the depths of the stone vigil. The dense concentration of aether particularly affected Seda, causing her to experience violent bouts of aether sickness. Though she recovered, she’s since been sensitive to concentrated aether; making aetheryte travel a rather unpleasant experience. As such, she only travels by crystal if it’s absolutely necessary.
daily rituals
Seda is a creature of routine and habit and can often be seen engaging in small daily rituals. In the morning she cleans her armor and weapons meticulously. At night she trains and engages in general exercise, allowing the exhaustion to lull her to sleep. At least once a day she takes time to meditate, in whatever form that may take for her at the time; sometimes its just staring off into the distance.
a long way from home
Seda was but a child when she left the Skatay Range and the forest at its base, and that was many many years ago. Having grown up with very little interaction with her vieran culture, Seda is a little curious about learning the ways of her people, or perhaps travelling back to Dalmasca one day to see it more clearly than what she remembers in foggy memory. As such, when pressed about her culture, she is often unable to offer response.
tongue tied
Mostly due in part to the presence of her mother and spending her early life in Dalmasca, Seda does speak with a slight accent native to her people. Though over time, the accent of ishgard sometimes tints the ends of her words, mixing together in a way that can sometimes sound a little messy. Being of common birth, but raised around those noble types her mother served, Seda’s way of speaking often changes between a more formal way of talking, and a more common vernacular. Often within the same sentence. She’s never really thought about it much.

TimelineStory
HomelandSeda is born a bastard to a knight whom rejects her. Much of Seda's early life is spent on the move.
Left BehindLater into her youth, Seda is left behind, where she makes a quiet ply of survival in Dalmasca. She spends her youth learning to provide for herself, taking menial jobs and learning to peddle gathered materials.
A fortuitous findIn her early adolescence, the young viera finds an old rusted sword and decides to follow her mothers path. She endeavours to become a knight, and bets her pride on it.
KnighthoodEventually, after years of training, the young viera gets accepted into a knighthood with a lesser order, and there she begins to take jobs as a sworn protector.
RemorseSeda fails to protect her employer and is subsequently stripped of rank and title. She is left penniless and must make an effort of securing a means to live once more.
An offerThe viera is approached by a temple knight with an offer of employment; Work for the protection of Ishgard, and join a coalition of mercenaries and knights. She would accept, and works now as a fiend hunter.

⚔︎ beginning

the first thing she could remember was the sound of armor, the metallic clinks as it hit against itself. The smell of the linseed oil used to maintain its joints still linger in her nose to this day. She was born a mistake; a product of a sin wrought upon her mother by the man who employed her. His name and face were unknown to the young viera, her mother never mentioned it. Perhaps thinking if it was never acknowledged, one could almost think it never happened. But both her and her mother knew better; the look of something dark that bubbled up in her mother's icy blue gaze whenever she looked at seda was enough to tell; not all sins can be washed away. But perhaps they can be forgotten. Seda spent her early years raised by other women, both familiar and strange; nannies, friends, strangers. As the years wore on, on the occasions she did spend with her mother, she only saw a face that grew more and more foreign by the year. Despite it all, her mother still wished to work as a knight; citing her faith and pride as a dalmascan was greater than anything, and that it was her country she loved and wanted to continue to serve; not any one house or noble. As such, there was no room for Seda in her heart; and as far as her mother was concerned, a child was a burden. Her youth came and went, and it was in her adolescent years she decided , she would become more than her mother's bastard. The view she had of her mother in her memories, a back clad in armored steel, and chainmail, growing ever more distant was not a show of abandonment; it was a challenge. Run, chase, surpass; become more. Seda's path was set. She spent her days, now alone, in silent survival; hunting, gathering and selling whatever she could to make enough coin to live, enough coin to save. It was simply good fortune when she found a rusted old blade, dropped in the shallow creeks of dalmasca. Back then, the weight of it was too much, she could barely hold it upright, but that in and of itself came to symbolize the weight of her goals; and how far she had still to go. Nights spent training as best she could, days spent foraging for sustenance, it was like this that the years rolled on and soon...soon she was sworn as a fellow knight of a lesser order, but an order that elevated her status nonetheless. the weight of her blade had grown light.

⚔︎ middle

but fate is impartial, and for seda, the future before her was laced with misfortune. though she was wise to the ways of the world, she was ignorant of the ways of people. Her only sin was naivety, and for sinners, only hell awaited. A contract taken, and nights spent in close proximity to the soul of another. An auri woman who seemed so much different than anyone else, a relationship built on passion; and an ignorance to the differences between love and pleasure. Seda believed, that for the first time her life, she had found someone who truly loved her; for what else could this happiness have been? alas, it was not meant to be so. Sketchy intel, a bad tip, and luck against them, led to an attack against her employers convoy. Though her and her fellow knights fought hard to protect them, the monsters were too strong, and too many. The casualties piled up until only a few remained. The commotion in the air giving way to silence, broken only by the sounds of those who remained crying blasphemies against the gods, against her, against everything. In the span of minutes, a whole bloodline was nearly erased. Seda ran to the auri woman's side but was met with only disdain and hatred. When they got back to the gates of ishgard, the first thing that happened was tell of the failure of Seda and those few knights who remained, and when finally confronted by those who held authority far above her own; she realized that love was not always shared. That auri woman, with nowhere else to direct her anger, pointed at seda and proclaimed an abuse of power, a failure to protect, the commission of the very crime that gave birth to the viera. Lies, slander, but accepted as the truth. seda was disgraced, her name sullied as a knight who failed their one job, and forced their employer into a relationship with a twisted abuse of power. She was stripped of her rank, ousted from the order and a mark placed upon her. She would never work with any order again, her shame would follow her to the ends of the earth; and as amends, what coffers she had were drained, given to the auri woman who demanded recompense. Seda was left distraught, abandoned, and once again returned to her life of quiet survival.

⚔︎ present

Days and nights spent avoiding the gaze of the public eye, until eventually she simply became a cautionary tale. Eventually the commotion of the convoy attack died down, much of the details forgotten and replaced with hearsay. But after that, Seda's life was never the same. Jobs were scarce, her presence outright denied, her face remembered as one unreliable and her name carried with it a permanent stain. After awhile she decided she needed to rebuild anew, reforge herself in a new image and find a different path ahead. Who she was had to be abandoned, and to do that she started with her name. She would adopt a new moniker; Loxley, and would do whatever she could to make amends, to earn her forgiveness and prove her worth once again; but now, now she wasn't sure who she pledged this life of penance to. Was it that woman she failed to protect? her mother? The city? Or was it to herself? Questions bubbled up in her mind that would remain unanswered for some time yet.The bottom of a bottle became her solace, the stinging warmth of that ambrosia served as distraction between what little work she could find. Within the halls of that dingy tavern, she sometimes caught glimpses of a large pale Au Ra and a small elezen girl clinging to him, oft seen keeping to themselves in the corners of the room. They seemed as much a fixture of the place as she was, and soon she couldn't help but notice them often, both at and away from the tavern. Seda's life continued on, a grueling routine of job hunting and self-destruction. The cracks in her heart would soon beckon to something more sinister, the feeling of being watched and the sense of a shadowy figure lurking somewhere just beyond her vision.Though she could never tell what it was exactly, the answers came to her in the form of a sudden and tight grip on her arm, and the furrowed brow of that pale Au Ra. The man seemed knowledgeable on the figure that plagued her; an entity known only as esteem. He educated her on its origins, and in doing so, a bond slowly began to form between the trio and soon her nights were often spent in the company of the unlikely duo; Sidurgu and Rielle didn't care about her past and she found comfort in their companionship. It was Sidurgu who became a major support for the viera, as esteem's whispers seeped through in moments of weakness he served as a grounding force, allowing her to maintain control over herself, while Rielle served as pillar of support and font of strength. It was like this that her days were spent, working for coin, training under Sidurgu, resisting the temptations esteem offered and trying her best to move on from her past.

With barely enough coin in her pocket to keep her lodgings at the forgotten knight, leaving the labyrinthian city for good seemed nigh impossible. Unfortunately, it would seem fate wasn't finished toying with her. The viera found herself nursing her poison of choice when she noticed the unmistakable clang of armor approaching her. Metallic sabatons entered her downturned gaze, and a gruff voice spoke up. A man, clad in temple knight armor, stood before her and offered her a sealed scroll, making mention that she had been called on by name by an unknown party. The House of Lords, fearful from the events of the final days, were assembling a coalition of mercenaries, sell swords and knights to protect the greater interests. Fiends, voidsent, monsters of unimaginable horrors, the things that lurked in shadows seemed all the more dangerous now and Ishgard demanded protection. Within that scroll was an offer of steady employment, a living wage, and a means to regain her reputation and standing.Though she did not open the scroll right away, the promise of a different path was rather tempting. It sat on her dresser for days, and often became her drinking partner. Hesitation rang in her mind, questions of worth and whether she deserved such an opportunity plagued her and prevented her from opening it for some time. Perhaps it was the courage gained from the whiskey, or the desperation that came with her last few coins, eventually the viera realized she had to make her choice, the sight of her shaking hands as she held that scroll made it all the more apparent to her that her future was now unwritten, the path laid before her completely unknown. Prying herself from the tavern chair she had become all too acquainted with, she lifted her sword from its resting place and strapped it to her back, leaving behind the warmth of the Forgotten Knight, and into the cold, biting air of Ishgard; she couldn't help but notice, the weight of her sword seemed heavier now.She had decided, redemption lay before her, and she would be a fool not to seize it.

As this character is primarily written through discord roleplay, it is possible certain NPC characters will be mentioned or even introduced to the storyline if deemed appropriate. For ease of reference, NPC bonds are listed first, player bonds are listed second.

Rook Revelle

friend

A daughter of the Brume, Seda's first introduction to Rook was at the end of a knife. Since then, conflict between them was not unusual given the womans chosen profession of a thief masquerading as a noble. Rook often tests Seda's morals and knightly code, but at the end of the day, she is one of the few people willing to treat Seda with dignity; all else falls away over a good ale the two sometimes share.

Wick Orant

Friend

Sedgewick of house Orant, a temple knight who serves Ishgard with pride. Initially part of the small garrison in charge of overseeing Seda's group to their new tasks, the two quickly found common ground, having been once cut from the same cloth. Wick genuinely enjoys the viera's company and the two often train together or can be seen in the teahouses of the market district.

Sidurgu Orl

Mentor

Sidurgu initially approached the viera with an extended hand, noticing her growing conflict with Esteem. He taught Seda how to overcome the whisperings of the entity and functions now as a mentor of sorts. Though Seda turned down his offer to learn the dark arts, she nevertheless trains beside him, learning how best to wield the weight of her weapon more efficiently. Though she would hesitate to call him friend, she knows she is able to let down her guard with him, trusting in his blunt honesty.

Rielle De Caulignont

charge

The young ward under Sidurgu's protection, Seda too became something of a guardian to the young girl. The youth tends to bring out emotions that Seda is rather out of tune with; something motherly that compells her to dote and spoil the child where Sidurgu fails to. Seeing the potential within, Seda also tries her best to teach Rielle how to hold her own, knowing that conjury will only get her so far.

⚔︎

Dumha Rhatsha

associate

An alchemist from the sands of Ul'dah, a client turned associate. Though the two have only had a few interactions, Seda can't help but be a little curious about the woman, whose life and circumstances seem so different to her own.
